The premises of the chateau in Mělník are located just above the confluence of the Elbe and the Vltava; it is a dominant feature of the city. The original castle was built in the 13th century as a residence of Czech Princes.

Later it was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau. In 1753 it was in the possession of the Lobkowicz family. The chateau is immensely rich in artistic works by Dutch painters and outstanding Czech Baroque artists - for example, Petr Brandl and Karel Škréta. There is also an exposition of Czech winegrowing and children's prams. The chateau terrace offers spectacular views of the České Středohoří and Mount Říp. In addition to the standard tour around the chateau, you can visit the wine cellars and sample excellent wine. There are special events, such as the traditional Czech fair or grape harvest.

You can book a guide that speaks English.
